Stanford Clinical Summer Internship

What is Stanford CSI?

From the program website: Stanford CSI brings together curious learners from differing backgrounds to actively engage in the exploration of the art and science behind world-class medicine. Discover, contribute and make meaningful connections and friendships while working alongside dedicated and dynamic Stanford medical students, residents and faculty, who are all eager to share the joy they have found in medicine.

What did I learn?

During this program, I studied the inner workings of each body system and medical specialty; "all of medical school in two weeks" as they called it. By the end of the program, I’d learned how to stabilize a patient pre-hospital through the use of advanced first aid and taking patient history, including leading a group of fellow interns to give a presentation of gastrointestinal illnesses and disorders in order to diagnose patients. I also got to hear lectures from doctors on the breaking edge of medical research at Stanford. During the internship, I met Dr. Gordon Li, whose lecture on the day in the life of a neurosurgeon confirmed my desire to pursue a career in neurosurgical oncology.
