Speech and Debate

My Role

I have been a part of my school's Speech and Debate team since I was a freshman. Now, as Co-President and Event Lab Leader of my team, I am responsible for new member recruitment and event teaching. This year, we were able to attract 180+ new members through a variety of marketing campaigns that I spearheaded. And as a Lab Leader, I teach After Dinner Speaking and Parliamentary Debate to 25+ students.

Teaching and Mentorship

I greatly enjoy training new members in both of my events. After Dinner Speaking (ADS) is a speech event that is more stand-up comedy than a speech. Seeing members make the whole room laugh after weeks of carefully tweaking their speech is very rewarding.

Parliamentary Debate is a fast paced debate event where evidence and pre-round preparation is not allowed. This event demands a lot of on the fly thinking and quick argument synthesis. I love holding practice debates with the whole class; the extremely competitive but sportsmanlike energy in the room creates a special environment.
